FAMILY-Eschenheimer research

So I got weary of working on a stranger's Gilger tree and thought I would tackle the Eschenheimers. My Providence cousins. Their grandfather came here from Germany before the first world war. Louis was born in 1882 and had a brother Rudolph born 1894. I thought a good place to start was with Rudolph whose wife Gertrude Fenwick hung herself in 1941. She is buried  with a stone that has her name Gertrude Fenwick Elkins. I wondered three years ago when I found that stone why? and I still wondered why so I asked on the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness site on facebook, why? Well that revealed so much . Her death certificate says her name was Gertrude Eschenheimer and that she was widowed. Her mother gave the details so either she did not know the truth or was protecting someone. Since the gravestone has "MOTHER" engraved at the top, it is easy to assume that a child provided the stone and the information.
Turns out....

She married in 1912 to Walter Elkins. Had a child Howard in 1915 in Arkansas. Walter seems to disappear and Gertrude shows up in 1930 census as a servant and 1940 census as a maid. Never with Howard. She married Rudolph Eschenheimer in 1927 and a 1930 census shows a child with him as a lodger named Elkins Eschenheimer. You just have to laugh at most census pages- there is always something way out of whack either intentionally or through ignorance. So I go to my tree and a hint pops up about an Elkins marriage and first name Walter. A few missteps and wrong turns and we finally find him in Pennsylvania and then he dies in Florida married to a Caroline and has a daughter and three sons. In his obit his first son Howard is not mentioned. Likely the wife Caroline never knew he existed. And even more likely Gertrude's parents raised him. Only see him in a census as a child as Elkins Eschenheimer. 1940 census Gertrude is back in Missouri as a maid listed as D for divorced. Back tracking and seeing when Rudolph marries Elsie the mother of his two, so far, children; I see he married an Ina Carlyle Garbee in Vermont in 1920. That didn't last long and Ina died in Vermont with the Escheheimer name. Thankful for that as it is easy to search, not being a "smith" like name.
Saw also that Rudolph and Louis's parents had 12  children. we will see.

The following have to do with Gertrude, Walter and Rudolph. After that will be what I have dug up on the other Eschenheimers.

There are several articles and obits in the Fort Meyers newspaper that mentions the family. I did not find anything that mentioned another son.
His obit has one error: surviving sister should be daughter, Carolyn Danis (shortened from Danisewicz?).

These are his 5 known children:

Carolyn Mae Elkins, (1928 PA - 2000 FL)
(married 3x's: Jasmin, Danisewicz & Mercer )
Jack Ellsworth Elkins, (1929 PA - 2000 FL)
Virginia Ruth Elkins, (1930 PA - 1931 PA)
Ralph E Elkins, b. abt 1932, PA
Eugene Ellsworth Elkins, b. abt 1943, FL
