HIKES-Nearby path

Thought I would try out the TomTom gps today on a nearby path.

Waited for gps to charge and coffee to kick in, then went for a hike. Now waiting for caffeine to wear off and gps to charge again  Winds were so strong yesterday they knocked down a stockade fence. AND as I was moving the waltzing trash barrel back into place I noticed the wind had moved the trailer and crumpled the pylon and crashed into the back of the truck!

HIKES-Walk in the Woods to Chatham-Harwich border marker

I see I have some catching up to do.
Marker reads
C/H
1744

December 29 2018 I walked the bike path to the marker and took photos along the way. I had my camera and tomtom gps with me but battery failed on tomtom and camera did not get a clear photo of the readings. so... They covered the repair stations- what are you supposed to do in cold weather?

Met a man walking his dog on my way and he so graciously marked the path where the marker is so I would not pass it by!

the marker to the left of the above marked path

the second try with gps and tying yarn along path to marker. For a better idea of how to get there from Morton road end of bike path look for the last wooden fence to the right which is opposite the path to water company property in South Chatham. Take that path bear left until you get to power lines cross over and keep walking you will pass a tee pee like structure of dead tree limbs- keep going!

more later

much later-

October 23 2020

well a pandemic happened and adventures came to a halt. For many reasons. But from March to October I basically did local hikes  of short duration. But a nice day came along and and wanted to test my strength having not walked outside other than the parking lot for almost 6 months.

We had some wicked storms- winds & rain. I got to the turn off the bike path and headed to the boundary marker. My yarn was still marking a tree and the path other side of the power lines. But I could not find the yarn marking the marker. So much wind damage I am guessing it is buried under piles of debris.. Unless someone goes back there in search of free firewood- it will remain buried. The overgrowth at the power lines was noticeably denser and taller likely from the lack of pollution because people were not out in their cars and less foot traffic. But it was remarkable.

Not sassafras but that is what I always call that red leaf shrub/tree

back on the bike path

I can hear someone coming up behind me to my right- I turn and say "Hi" or "Hello" and nothing. That happens a lot. Always puzzles me.

Skippers back property- the old wrecks in the woods are deteriorating at a faster rate.

and this has been in the road for a month- what was it?

election night time for me to hide under the quilts.
