RANT: sort of- new sewing machine

 My old Genie broke down and needed a new machine to sew masks and crafts and mend. I was settled on getting a "Start" machine got to the store and I could lift it with my pinkie finger, same with the next model up. So those are too lightweight. And they did not have the first I chose in stock which was a Heavy Duty machine. So ended up with a 3342. Seems good. Haven't used it yet but have unboxed it. It spent the night in the locked truck. Had to let the cord relax in the sun.

as I was checking out  I mentioned to the cashier that the box was dented.
"oh that is okay" she says then tells me there is a restocking fee if I return it. I told her I was not paying 25 if it was broken. she said of course not.

I will add the notions later that I bought same day.

Bought a sewing machine needle threader and then read that one was included  on the new machine. I do not see it , but can still use the separate one on regular sewing needles with small eyes.

bought quilting squares on sale which are perfect for making one mask. The purple will be for ties.

and for the Halloween season

and thread was buy 3 get 2 free. 100% polyester. Likely the last time I bought thread it was cotton wrapped in polyester. Looks like a cheap brand. Whatever happened to Coats & Clark?

September 29

Got the machine up and running. The needle threader works if you try hard LOL. Wound 2 bobbins. Made two masks and attempted to sew together those wool sweater scraps. I think I will end up doing that by hand. The attachment , a walking foot, is no promise that it will help and is almost 30 bucks so.

The second bobbin I would was using up old thread and wow turned out that thread was crappy so glad that is almost done. I guess there is an uwritten rule to use new thread. I think it was cotton wrapped polyester. It was old. But not ancient!

The foot pedal is not very responsive you have to have your entire foot on top of it and really press down. No toe control- kind of like the truck I drive on weekends.

But it is a keeper and is referred to as Viking. That's cool. ha ha.

finally got into Ben Franklin. I wanted solid blue- they had no solids but had a red that looked like water stained satin. Upon closer inspection it looks like tye dye. I like it! with yellow thread it ought to make a good stitch book.

after numerous complaints and emails the water department showed up and a guy was out there in a man hole for over an hour. Doing what I do not know. I asked questions of him and others have complained about the low pressure  and each complaint has to be checked out. While the low pressure issue had stopped maybe 5 days before I still wanted answers. ha ha. So there was a huge gush later the following day when I flushed the toilet. I had already run the water plenty I thought and the other night the hot water was grey. So I will ask my brother to run off the bottom of the water tank.

A friend has told me that the Stop & Shop in Dennis- Patriot Square has the mini bottles of water. I will check that out.

End of October 

I finally got  a chance to go to Dennis to the Stop & Shop there and they had all sizes. I got minis and then the next size up without the flip top- which spills when I use it. So, knock wood, I am set for a while. BUT it actually ate up 2 gallons of gasoline which I used Jer's credit card for but left 7.00 of cash under the blotter for him. I explained that a week later and he said it is a business expense but finally accepted it.

With all this banning there is still liter. Saw this on my walk to the post office on October 21st

so the litter is just getting bigger LOL

Jer flushed the water tank from the water company's "work" that made it dark grey for a day.
