2024: MERCHANDISE

Bought my first pair of Merrell hiking boots over 5 years ago. Was given a gift certificate 2 years ago to LLBean and decided to use it towards a new pair. Not that the first wore out- just good to have back ups. So recently we had a Nor Easter and my older pair got soaking wet. Time to try new pair. To keep this short- first pair had 60 inch laces. New pair had 54 inch laces. I scrounged around in my spare lace collection and found softer 70 inches. Even better,. What's with the 54 inches. Also they were stiff and hard to tie.

July 18

This is way out of order but I fell on June 19th called 911 to bee picked up then 5 days later had trouble breathing so called 911 again.Took me to er. tested positive for covid and had 3 cracked ribs, scapula and rotator cuff. Covid slowed things down 3 days in hospital and sent me home on the 26th. So house bound. Thank goodness for Shaw's fresh pass and amazon.

Has anyone every successfully opened on he perforation? This is a giant word find puzzle book inside

In the hospital  June 23-26-I was given water in a cup with a lid and it had ice in it and a straw. To say I never drank ice water would be true. Cold bottled water closes my throat in. Ice cubes I have actually choked on. This seemed safe and I knew I had to stay hydrated. my body temperature was 99 degrees. It was refreshing. So I am anxious a month later to get back to iced water. I do not have  lids but straws should be with my food order tomorrow. and the mini ice cube makers look fine.

What would I do without Shaws Fresh Pass and amazon. Speakers for the laptop should be here tomorrow. But this a book light showed up today.

July 26

So it has been a month since I got back here from the hospital. seems like forever. First 2 weeks I was pretty much useless. I could cook and clean for myself but that was it. The laundry I put away as it came from the laundry. Well yesterday I felt well enough to go through ALL my drawers and fold things my way. Not critisizng the laundry they do a great job. Yesterday also installed the 2 other grab bars for the shower. And put together the car wash mitt on a handle stick for cleaning the shower  walls. Looks like it will work. My borther put together the walker for down below, so when I am strong enough for stairs I will venture outside. ( that means getting dressed so...) Back to laundry- It was new trash bags to send it off in each time. A lot of plastic waste! Bought 12 huge nylon laundry bags and wrote my name on 6 of them with permanent marker. Hand washed those today making sure nothing "bled"

My neck will never be the same- no looking up- but my right arm has the same mobility as the left ( both injured repeatedly in the past 5 years.) rib pain only when I do something weird. Down to 1/4 cap ful of Robitussin. Sleep still weird but has been since 2006. Gave brother the only red laundry bag- he loves red.

`amazon wanted a revie of the car mop!

Still recovering from a fall I took in June 2024. Needed an easier way to clean the shower. I googled what I wanted "chenille mop  head on a stick" and  this came up. Looked like exactly what I needed. Tried it and wet it first. Mistake it weighs a ton wet! So next time I will spray walls and us it dry. It is easy to maneuver.

Wednesday was lovely NOT for walking.Left here for Hyannis errands at 10am- got back here a bit before 2pm.First stop Harwich hardware store for a burglar bar for door here. I have one that I like- could I duplicate that? no. Masters company decided to improve on that company's simple design and make something awkward and cumbersome with lynch pins that fall out. I will have to check youtube for some videos. The print is so small on the packaging. Then to South Dennis Stop & Shop for mini Poland Spring water bottles. The closest place to me. Got 2 12 packs. While in the store I almost turned around and left. The smell of fish was overpowering. Wondered why more people were NOT grimacing. I did more than my share. Headed to Hyannis on rt 28. Major road construction everywhere and people directing traffic holding up a tiny sign you cannot see. Joanns was dismal but got a cake of yarn. Trader Joes super busy had to ask where the chocolate was. Good thing as it was out of my reach even on tip toe. Completed the aggravation with Whole Foods and still no parking. Kohl's for jeans and the floor was so shiny and slippery I almost fell even with my cane. no jeans. Then to top it all off Old  Navy looking like they are going out of business and who wears these clothes? no v neck tank tops ( used to be stacks of the all year) no flannel shirts in men's , no pajama bottoms. Pouring rain at each stop LOL rt 6A back here to avoid the "city" crap. Ordered jeans on amazon and a warming sauce pan for heating up my coffee.

Seaside Cannabis

After a morning of the epitome of SNAFU I decided to check out Seaside Cannabis in Orleans.Let me preface this with saying I drive anywhere and  park anywhere that does not have flashing red lights and a huge DO NOT ENTER sign. I am more focused on not mowing someone down or shredding tires.

So I parked in the back (front was full)of Seaside Cannabis. Locked the truck and walked to the front taking photos as I stumbled along. I get to the front and see the sign saying  "customer entrance in  rear"If I see that phrase one more time I will think the world is full of gay porn shops.

So go back to the truck to get my cane- did enough unassisted walking. Walk to the ramp. Anyone who has mobility issues knows by now that the ramps are the worst. This one was even  slippery. and was a long walk with a couple of turns. At least the door opens upon sensing a body is approaching. First thing- I am asked for an ID and am now scanned into the system. I hope they have a record of me leaving. I ask if they have cut flowers. no we have buds. I sort of suspected as much. But I have been searching for cut flowers unsucessfully. Just want one or 2. I do not need them wrapped or anything just hand me the cut flower.

Then  I ask where the incense is located. They do not have incense. 

What sort of head shop does not have incense I wonder. So I thank him as he acts amazed I do not smoke or eat edibles. But geez maybe for gift giving some day. So I wobble down the ramp and get in the truck and head for Agway next door. I thought they sold plants. I walk in and my senses are hit with the smell of dry pet food. I recover from that and ask the cashier if they have cut flowers. She thought and hestitated an said she did not think so.

I could hardly wait for my coffee back here and my Greek yogurt etc.

oh and the person taking the ID had hands that did not match his body or shirt.

Pouring rain and laundry day at last. 2 weeks worth so it was lugging bags of dirty laundry (at least 8 of them) from truck to washer. Having 2 bags after sorting that would not fit. Then lugging clean wet laundry to the truck and bringing that up the apartment. back to laundry for the dried stuff. Back and forth in the rain to transport it all. So needless to note my outer hat was soaking wet. ragged Winter jacket was soaking wet and my hiking boots which are supposed to be water resistant were soggy.

RANT & KNOT HACK.

I bought a duplicate pair of Merrell hiking boots a couple of years ago. I had a gift certificate and money towards them and it was back when I thought nothing of driving over 10 miles for something. I wore them maybe once in the Summer and then set
them aside for when the old pair wore out. Well last week in a deluge of rain while doing laundry the old pair got soggy wet. They were not drying out even taken apart. So last Monday it was time to put the "new" ones in service. Imagine my ire when I found the laces were short. Thick boot socks on etc. And the laces were stiff from the beginning. I tried short lacing them that is a short cut to a backache. So too late to return them. I checked my vast collection of new & used laces. Had a pair of really long laces like the short ones but soft and pliable. ONLY drawback. there were multiple tight knots close to the aglet. Then I remembered trying to loosen those knots over the years and giving up. Google to the rescue. found a shallow lid and filled it with water. soaked the knots for 10 minutes. Still tight. Another 10 minutes and voila- knots undone. In the process realized the lace wicks the water out of the lid.

Crazy busy day 8am-noon local errands then ate a snack and headed to Hyannis around 1pm back at 4pm. I am tired and no coffee!

Did a thing. Was going to burn my father's correspondence he died in 1985. A ritual burn would have been too good. So to UPS Store and handed the 2 lbs  of toxic over to UPS shredder service. at 76 I figured it was about time.

I am capable of squinting and giving the machine the middlefinger at the same time too.

good thing Singer people are not within walking distance. No screwdriver in the original kit. the screw that secures everything is a round headed slotted screw NOT the type you can unscrew with finger and thumb like in tutorials. I better get on full body armor to test drive this. the needle may break and embed itself in my throat or eyeball.

oh and the lever was not in all tutorials.

Hope I never have to do a buttonhole as this install is a royal pain in the ass. I will sew with the walking foot for everything!

2023: RANT- WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT

 I would say Chatham's website is the most non user friendly of all. I composed the note below and clicked to have a copy sent to me. And submitted. what does it do? ends up looking like I sent a message to the "sticker office" it was meant for the board of health. so freaking frustrating

"I live in Commerce Park next to the Waste Water Treatment plant. I can somewhat tolerate an occasional whiff of sewer BUT Saturday July 1 2023 was all day long. It permeated everything. Sunday was just a little less. I feel this is a fruitless effort reporting this as it has gone on for years. But I do not know what else to do. I cannot afford an air purification system.

2023: RANT- CAPE COD MALL& FLAT TIRE BLOWOUT & MACY'S ESCALATORS

 Saturday I headed to Macy's at the backside of the Mall to get an 8" stainless steel fry skillet. In an attempt to add variety to my life I allow myself some Alexia sweet potato fries ( 12 of them) a couple of times a week for lunch.Seemed a huge waste of electricity  to use the oven. And toaster oven took 30 minutes so.I get down there a little after 3. Driving that back road and passing Best Buy on my left I approached where I need to park. All of a sudden-loud noise , jolting of body and felt like my brain rattled in my skull. what the ??? I ran over something but what? Park truck and spent too much time trying to find the fucking pan. 2 people in the department didn't know and one said "we don't have them". So on tippy toes I am trying to see the top of shelves in the aisles. No signage no prices. But I see Cuisinart and grab  it. Go over to the clerk and ask the price. "don't know yet" she says. It turned out cheaper than the price online. good I sped on out of there. oh wait- escalator out of order to go down. No obvious signs of elevator. someone hollered at me- elevator in sheets. Well that is camouflaged well. Get out to the truck  and look around the passenger side just in case someone is lying under the truck for me to run over. ( or later gruesome thought- a mangled body of what I drove over). yikes not just a flat tire but a blow out. How the fuck did that happen? Called AAA. must have said "I cannot understand you" 15 times. They said someone would be there by 6:30pm. It was around 5pm. I groaned. okay. I called a few people on my cell phone just to disperse the tension I was feeling and no one answers LOL Finally catch an old friend and we chat about how much he hates cars. Then AAA shows up. So being me it is not a simple tire change. He had to break the lock holding the spare in place etc. I retraced my tracks on the way out and saw what happened. The road curves out and then all of a sudden straightens I will send the mall goons a note telling them to paint that curb WHITE- it is like shrapnel.Finally headed back to Chatham waiting any minute for the tire to fly off and take me with it.

How about painting the invisible curb facing Goodwill WHITE! I got a blowout there on Saturday afternoon. It curves and straightens unexpectedly. And is sharp.

loading the truck with too much in my arms my grape juice bottle slipped, I  caught it then it dropped and rolled under the truck. I was going to back up but just knew it would roll under the tire and make a mess. So I took pix under the truck to see where it was and then got my litter grabber and retrieved it.

I do apologize that our escalator was not working when you were shopping with us last week, and yes you are right we should have done a better job with signing to indicate where our elevator is located on the second floor.  While we do have stairs, they are emergency exit stairs and are not typically open for public use on a regular shopping day.  We can escort customers that do not want to ride the elevator so if that is something you need in the future, you can ask a colleague to call for someone to help in that instance.  The good news is that our escalator is up and running now!

:2023: NEW SEWING TABLE

 May-June

excited that I had finally "fixed" the bunched thread problem on my fairly new Singer machine I attempted to make a mask. I made two. Then remembered how I have had problems with my neck and stomach muscles because of the angle , too high, of the machine. So decided then and there to rectify the issue and order a sewing machine table that has a lowered portion so machine itself is level with the table top. Therefore I am not raising my hands in an unnatural position.

I figured I could move the table the machine is on- out into the kitchen area. Sounds complicated but it is not. I just cannot lift 35 lb tables! So brother of his helpers will have to help me.

It is a lot of stuff to relocate permanently and temporarily.

My poor body is so sore!

stick a fork in me I think I am done. My brother moved the big table out in the kitchen area and adjusted the sewing table. It has taken me all day to organize. I am sore!

Big table in kitchen area. I had first wanted to use my favorite old table cloth that is white with pastel flowers embroidered on it. It looked too much like a church supper so I chose my red Italian table cloth.

was pondering what to do about the broken  floor protector on my breakfast-lunch-supper table. I thought I still had  cups from years ago that had a cushioned backing to slide on the floor. But could find them no where. Even those peel and stick glides- none were big enough. So when I was organizing drawers and shelves for the sewing table move I saw I had a "book" of drink coasters. I never use except one beside my recliner for my tea ta night. Tried 4 of them and it works- AND the table no longer wobbles- a problem I thought I would never solve ha ha. So in that process I saw that the red tablecloth on the long table from the sun room now in kitchen area was too small. I thought of the shower curtain I never use because it is too heavy ( but pretty) for a shower curtain as it never dries and remain soggy. so that is perfect also. But in putting that into place I noticed a red stain on it that looked like a spill- still no clue what that was from but it is hidden so who cares. Red cloth is on supper table now.

Necessity- Mother of Invention

I know my apartment will never make front page of House Beautiful , but it works for me. Me hating to spend unnecessary money on things I try to figure out another way. Well my breakfast-lunch-supper table made a metallic scratching noise last week and I found that a floor protector that had been on one leg since 1996 had fallen off. Likely made a clicking sound when vacuumed up- that I ignored. I move the table weekly to vacuum and wet mop. So put a small rug under it. I hate rugs- cannot mop them! So when rearranging drawers in Spring cleaning I noticed I have a "book" of coasters I rarely use. 4 of them really old. They got put to use under each leg. So now no scratching  and no rug. My litter picker upper came in handy. 2 weeks ago I thought I could turn the table upside down and do repairs. big fat no to that. So now it no longer wobbles either. yay.

Gave my old machine to DelRoy for him to send down to Jamaica to a friend of his. We all thought someone could fix it. Come to find out labor to fix it is 125.00 an hour plus a 100.00 deposit that would go towards labor. But with no promise it could be fixed. :'( So I told him to throw it away. A new machine would be 170 bucks tops for a basic model.
