2024 ENTERTAINMENT- DVDS

This will be out of order as I have not caught up with what I have seen
Fleabag 1 & 2 were perfect and quirky

**
Broadchurch was mind blowing and so suspenseful

**
***
I ran out of things I wanted to watch and picked up a series at the library. I think it was Mid Sommers mysterie. A crap ton of them to wade through. One night I was ready to start and the dvd player in the lap top would not work. So 2 weeks went by before I found a replacement on amazon that used the laptop for power.
not going to doin youtube links anymore since I never view them LOL
but recently watched The Sixth Sense. Before bed- bad idea. I rehashed the movie in my many wakeful moments!

Then Clarissa a British series of 2. too confusing and uninteresting like a Jane Austen thing.
Then The Haunting in venice with Kenntehr Branaugh. Decent story of Agatha Christies but the usual camp style of acting. And even when I am told "who did it" I still do not understand.

So the morning my brother was to drive with his wife to Florida he dropped by a hug bag of DVDs I could have to watch and dispose of as I wished. Went through them and a good bag full will be donated to the library if they will take them. I doi not want the hassle of selling them. Many were ones I saw when I worked at Lelo's in the 80s and 90s.
Keeping 24, and The Sopranos and will give those a shot. Not sure I can handle violence Ilike I did back when I was in my 30s & 40s. we will see.
so the list of those to keep are
The Sopranos
24
Night of the Iguana
Cinma Paradiso
Big Bang Theory first season
A Death in Venice
A Man & A Woman
pix of bags full snd ones drefinitely not wanted LOL

2024: THOUGHTS

I was going to make resolutions this year. But it has been since the early 80s since I did so. I think I will swear more and complain more. And for a thrill I will grab my own ass just to add spice to my life.

February 4

A facebook friend posted 2 photos of herself at 20-21. Getting married. My mother married at 19 in 1943.

I guess it is a thing on facebook right now to post photos of yourself at 20 ish. Not sure I have a photo of me at that age but think this one is close- me and my brother in the 70s.

Then it got me  thinking- I never even dreamed of marriage or weddings. Always made me kinda o nauseous/ nervous thinking of someone there all the time telling me what to do. At 13 I remember hoping it was in my control and I could make it not happen. Same with having babies. But I do love children.

Years later I had a boyfriend and we drove his 2 children over the bridge to visit with  his parents. I was standing in the dining room looking at a bowl full of lottery tickets. Day dreaming as usual about wearing a bathing suit without pubes sticking out . Then I overheard his mother's voice say " You're not marrying THAT are you?"

I was startled- who had that thought. Not me. Though in retrospect it hurts.

Most little girls I imagine dream of wedding days etc and dress up like that when they are 10 or younger. I liked dressing up in the black crepe dress my mother had for funerals. Not dreaming of funerals. First funeral I remember was 1953-1954 when my grandfather Moore died- I was so sad. I just liked black and it was a cool accordion pleated skirt.

February 10

a long morning of errands

recycle

Orleans Whole Foods - picked up 2 teas using Jer & Kar's Christmas money. Genmaicha and Echinacea Plus with elderberry. The clerk was chatting with a woman who apparently had a pair of handmade gloves with her . He sneezed a huge sneeze behind his barrier.. He asked me if I knit the things I had on. yes- hat, belt and legwarmers. Adding it prevents me from killing. He said well doing anything to stop that is good. I answered but I would rather it was sex. But I am too old. He quipped that he was celibate. As I left I asked him to let me know when he is no longer celibate and I will drop by again. Left feeling good. LOL

Bank- cashed check so I would have money for lottery and laundry. Those 2 things are getting expensive. The bank now has large smooth stones in their garden out front. I have not used the front entry for awhile as it was slanted and awkward walking. They look like prime things to take home.

Hot Chocolate Sparrow- got a 5.00 gift card and gave it to the floral woman in Star Market. And thanked her again for the free rose that was till doing well! She said you did not have to do that. I answered. If I had to do it I likely would not.

Staples- got speakers for my laptop LogiTech. 30.00 using Jer and Kar's Christmas money. I had to ask where they were. the tech clerk walk to the aisle and pointed abs said on the left. Well you have to have eyes on your knees or the top of your head to see things. Finally found them just by looking for a price of $29.-

Star Market- miraculously they had everything on my list

Library- well returned Fleabag and the last Broadchurch. asked where  Midsomer Murders was located. I could not see the Ms. Library clerk walked to the shelf and said there are many- I would say! almost 2 shelves. I will have to make a list and tick them off as I see them. woo ho.

April 4

I feel it is important for us as fellow humans to stay informed on all the ways other humans can be thriving or suffering. Be it diseases, mental health, religious and spiritual beliefs, gender & sexual issues , politics and financial hardships and homelessness. So we can be more sympathetic with someone's plight. Lessen name calling and labeling. It is not necessary to get deeply involved , just be aware of our differences and how we are all basically the same.

April is Neurodiversity Awareness month. Many advances have been made in identifying and offering support. Support is crucial for the neurodiverse among us to function in this already busy and confusing society.

People should not feel they have to "come out" or "identify" or even admit to any differences they experience. We should all feel free to be ourselves without being singled out.

as with everything these days no one seems to agree to a day week or month to celebrate this so. all in good humor

Neurodiversity Awareness

I cannot seem to get a conversation rolling on facebook. Likely people think it is taboo or weird. Just my natural curiosity. The brain and mind are fascinating  to me.

on the way to food shop the windshield was covered with::rain,snow,hail & sleet all at once,.Back here and unloaded the groceries. Inside I could see rain sleet snow and hail on the kitchen windows. The sun came out briefly. I need a nap and some sun!

The nap was otherworldly. when I woke I felt unsure of what time of day it was -I was after lunch a little before 2pm I think. Then I started winding tarn into a ball and decided to delete ha ha ha Or people could be busy with their own lives,

January 24

Wednesday was lovely NOT for walking.Left here for Hyannis errands at 10am- got back here a bit before 2pm.First stop Harwich hardware store for a burglar bar for door here. I have one that I like- could I duplicate that? no. Masters company decided to improve on that company's simple design and make something awkward and cumbersome with lynch pins that fall out. I will have to check youtube for some videos. The print is so small on the packaging. Then to South Dennis Stop & Shop for mini Poland Spring water bottles. The closest place to me. Got 2 12 packs. While in the store I almost turned around and left. The smell of fish was overpowering. Wondered why more people were NOT grimacing. I did more than my share. Headed to Hyannis on rt 28. Major road construction everywhere and people directing traffic holding up a tiny sign you cannot see. Joanns was dismal but got a cake of yarn. Trader Joes super busy had to ask where the chocolate was. Good thing as it was out of my reach even on tip toe. Completed the aggravation with Whole Foods and still no parking. Kohl's for jeans and the floor was so shiny and slippery I almost fell even with my cane. no jeans. Then to top it all off Old  Navy looking like they are going out of business and who wears these clothes? no v neck tank tops ( used to be stacks of the all year) no flannel shirts in men's , no pajama bottoms. Pouring rain at each stop LOL rt 6A back here to avoid the "city" crap. Ordered jeans on amazon and a warming sauce pan for heating up my coffee.

Seaside Cannabis

After a morning of the epitome of SNAFU I decided to check out Seaside Cannabis in Orleans.Let me preface this with saying I drive anywhere and  park anywhere that does not have flashing red lights and a huge DO NOT ENTER sign. I am more focused on not mowing someone down or shredding tires.

So I parked in the back (front was full)of Seaside Cannabis. Locked the truck and walked to the front taking photos as I stumbled along. I get to the front and see the sign saying  "customer entrance in  rear"If I see that phrase one more time I will think the world is full of gay porn shops.

So go back to the truck to get my cane- did enough unassisted walking. Walk to the ramp. Anyone who has mobility issues knows by now that the ramps are the worst. This one was even  slippery. and was a long walk with a couple of turns. At least the door opens upon sensing a body is approaching. First thing- I am asked for an ID and am now scanned into the system. I hope they have a record of me leaving. I ask if they have cut flowers. no we have buds. I sort of suspected as much. But I have been searching for cut flowers unsucessfully. Just want one or 2. I do not need them wrapped or anything just hand me the cut flower.

Then  I ask where the incense is located. They do not have incense.

What sort of head shop does not have incense I wonder. So I thank him as he acts amazed I do not smoke or eat edibles. But geez maybe for gift giving some day. So I wobble down the ramp and get in the truck and head for Agway next door. I thought they sold plants. I walk in and my senses are hit with the smell of dry pet food. I recover from that and ask the cashier if they have cut flowers. She thought and hestitated an said she did not think so.

I could hardly wait for my coffee back here and my Greek yogurt etc.

oh and the person taking the ID had hands that did not match his body or shirt.

January 28

Pouring rain and laundry day at last. 2 weeks worth so it was lugging bags of dirty laundry (at least 8 of them) from truck to washer. Having 2 bags after sorting that would not fit. Then lugging clean wet laundry to the truck and bringing that up the apartment. back to laundry for the dried stuff. Back and forth in the rain to transport it all. So needless to note my outer hat was soaking wet. ragged Winter jacket was soaking wet and my hiking boots which are supposed to be water resistant were soggy.

February 3

RANT & KNOT HACK.

I bought a duplicate pair of Merrell hiking boots a couple of years ago. I had a gift certificate and money towards them and it was back when I thought nothing of driving over 10 miles for something. I wore them maybe once in the Summer and then set
them aside for when the old pair wore out. Well last week in a deluge of rain while doing laundry the old pair got soggy wet. They were not drying out even taken apart. So last Monday it was time to put the "new" ones in service. Imagine my ire when I found the laces were short. Thick boot socks on etc. And the laces were stiff from the beginning. I tried short lacing them that is a short cut to a backache. So too late to return them. I checked my vast collection of new & used laces. Had a pair of really long laces like the short ones but soft and pliable. ONLY drawback. there were multiple tight knots close to the aglet. Then I remembered trying to loosen those knots over the years and giving up. Google to the rescue. found a shallow lid and filled it with water. soaked the knots for 10 minutes. Still tight. Another 10 minutes and voila- knots undone. In the process realized the lace wicks the water out of the lid.

Crazy busy day 8am-noon local errands then ate a snack and headed to Hyannis around 1pm back at 4pm. I am tired and no coffee!

Elephant in the room

Did a thing. Was going to burn my father's correspondence he died in 1985. A ritual burn would have been too good. So to UPS Store and handed the 2 lbs  of toxic over to UPS shredder service. at 76 I figured it was about time.

2024: MERCHANDISE

Tried to  chat button does not work. I prefer email;.l had to call to let the=m know- their answer- they have come with 54 inch laces for a long time.

Bought my first pair of Merrell hiking boots over 5 years ago. Was given a gift certificate 2 years ago to LLBean and decided to use it towards a new pair. Not that the first wore out- just good to have back ups. So recently we had a Nor Easter and my older pair got soaking wet. Time to try new pair. To keep this short- first pair had 60 inch laces. New pair had 54 inch laces. I scrounged around in my spare lace collection and found softer 70 inches. Even better,. What's with the 54 inches. Also they were stiff and hard to tie.

Thank you]

2024: FOOD

 Coffee

Last year I switched for the canned Signature brand decaf coffee to bagged coffee. Tried Starbuck's Verona first. Tasty but smells like skunks when you first open the bag

Tried New England- okay but rather not

Peets again okay but not great

Green Mountain- okay

O Organics  French roast dark roast. great!

so I will alternate that with Starbucks so I do not tire of either.

Quinoa

well there has been no red quinoa on the shelves for months. I have had to settle for thr tri color blends. Not as hardy nor as tasty. Been trying for that amount of time to get to Whole Foods hoping THEY have their own brand. Have not been able to park there always so crowded. So I needed to add something to it to make it more filling. Enters Brown rice.

BROWN RICE

I noticed while looking for red quinoa in Star Market that Minute Rice has organic brown rice in small single serve containers. packs of 2. I am hooked. Hope they never discontinue them. Each single serve container gives me 3 servings though! I place in sauce pan and add a cup of water and boil then simmer for at least 10 minutes then lower heat and reduce. Place in custard cup to refrigerate.

Then my cousin tells me that brown rice is loaded with arsenic.

I figure at 76 what can I do. I would know to, not feed it to an infant or children. But also things containing arsenic are: broccoli, kale, cauliflower etc. all things I eat almost every day.

If it were radiation I would glow in the dark.

***

Chocolate

Been eating Hershey's Dark  Chocolate Kisses for years all of a sudden they are old on the shelves date to sell by just weeks away I had to switch to a single bar of expensive Endangered Species 72% Dark chocolate Smooth. It is a treat and delicious but too expensive. When at Trader Joe;s finally waxs able to get a Pounder Plus for 5.99.
