I have not driven anywhere since June 26 when I was brought back here from the hospital with 3 cracked ribs,scapula and rotator cuff injury. So I have seen nothing  in Chatham since then or other towns. Here is a list of things to check out if I ever drive again or get a safe ride. From Cape Cod Chronicle

While Cape Cod is known for its traditions, it is also a lively, growing, and ever-changing place. This season, many new businesses have opened, and several old, familiar ones have shut their doors.

In Harwich Port, Cape Life Brand Company has opened a shop at 537 Main St. in Harwich Port, offering Cape apparel and accessories with stylish designs. Down the street, Dairy Queen is under new ownership. Still offering classic blizzards, cones, and fried food daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., you will find this familiar favorite at 441 Main St. in Harwich Port.

If you aren’t in the mood for fast food and want to check out a new spot, check out Milano’s, a family-owned Italian restaurant serving authentic Italian cuisine with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. It’s located at 278 Route 28 in West Harwich in the former Villa Roma building.

Coming soon to Harwich is the Bagel Hound, a gourmet bagel and schmear experience, opening at 297 Route 28 in the former A&W Root Beer location.

In Orleans, there are just as many new offerings. Surfside Seafood has opened at 18 Old Colony Way. A seafood restaurant run by two fishermen, it features freshly prepared Cape Cuisine seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., right near Orleans Village Center. Across the street at 136 Route 6A is Navillus, another new restaurant offering their own takes on some familiar classics in a comfortable yet modern atmosphere.

For those who use cannabis products, Orleans is the place to stock up. Ember Gardens is opening a location at 41 Route 6A, just off the Orleans Rotary, the perfect spot to hit before heading to the beach! Down the road, locally-owned Seaside Cannabis Co. is open daily at 14 Lotts Hollow Rd.

Crossing into Chatham, there are even more additions to the business community. Liberty Artisanal Bakery, opening this month at 1223 Main St., offers breads and pastries, baked using newly built Italian ovens, a coffee and espresso bar, and much more.

Two other cafes are in the process of opening, both on Crowell Road. The popular Hyannis restaurant Pain D’Avignon is preparing to open in the space previously occupied by Emmabelle’s Cafe, and Three Fins Coffee Roasters is working to get its coffeehouse and chocolate manufacturing facility open at the former Chatham Swim and Health Club. Opening dates for the cafes have yet to be announced.

If you are looking for a classic Chatham shellfish experience, Elwood’s North Chatham Raw Bar, located at 309 Orleans Rd. in North Chatham, offers a walk-in raw bar experience along with catering services. It’s a one-stop shop for oysters, clams, and other prepared seafood dishes. They are currently open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, but their hours will expand later this month.

Vaya Island at 583 Main St. in Chatham offers a broad selection of bathing suits. The shop moved into the space formerly occupied by Chatham Kids, which moved across the street to the former Pentimento Shop space. Also relocating to new space is Gustare’s Oils and Vinegars, which is now in the 400 Main St. complex, and Cape Shark, which moved from The Cornfield to 1223 Main St.

The Life Is Good shop, open at 616 Main St. offers comfortable classics from the Life Is Good brand. Across the street, BROdenim offers a broad selection of Cape-related designs available on hoodies, jackets, and hats. If you are looking for a cute, hip spin on traditional Cape Cod merchandise, you will want to visit BROdenim at 641 Main St.

Traveling down Main Street, Sea Her Shine offers yoga classes, a beach boutique, and other special events, such as Taylor Swift-themed parties. Sea Her Shine is now open at 1291 Main St.

A few iconic shops have shut their doors for good. If you are looking for sandals, belts or other leather goods, Canterbury Leather has what you’re looking for at its Orleans store. It closed its Chatham location after 50 years. Across the street, Lily’s Diner is also gone, as is the Bagel Shop formerly at 400 Main St.

BREWSTER – From Brewster Fire: On Thursday July 20 at 4:08 p.m. Brewster Fire was dispatched to a report of a fire and heavy smoke with sprinkler activation at SBS One Source, a building supply company located on Commerce Park Drive. On arrival Car 232 (Deputy Varley) reported heavy smoke coming from a large steel commercial building with activation of the sprinklers. A working fire assignment was requested bringing Harwich, Dennis, Orleans, Eastham, and Chatham fire departments to the scene. The sprinkler system was supplied and firefighters stretched hose lines into the building to locate and extinguish the fire which was found to have originated in a wood dust collection system in the southwest corner of the structure. An aggressive attack by Brewster Group 1 and mutual aid companies quickly knocked down all visible fire. Due to the fire conditions and heavy smoke that filled the building extensive overhaul and extended smoke removal operations were required.

The Brewster Building Commissioner and Electrical Inspector also responded to the scene and posted the building as inoperative until repairs to the structure and electrical system are completed. Eversource responded to the scene and disconnected power to the facility.

Brewster Fire would like to thank Harwich, Orleans, Dennis, Chatham, and Eastham Fire Departments, Brewster Police, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Communication Center, and the Brewster Building Department for their assistance at the scene and the Dennis and Yarmouth fire departments for providing response coverage for the Town during the incident.

HARWICH – SBS Properties, owner of a lumber company in Brewster, has an agreement to purchase the 3.08-acre property on Route 137 in East Harwich that was formerly Stagg Chevrolet.The Brewster facility was recently destroyed by fire and the owner is looking to relocate the company to the Harwich site. The appeals board will be asked Aug. 30 to approve a variance for the proposal. Read more in the next edition of The Chronicle.
