I posted about this yesterday and then had a change of feelings and deleted the post. I had received a letter from a guy I knew in the 70s. It was 4 pages of him describing his masturbation techniques.. FOUR PAGES. Neatly printed. And a note towards the end that he had a message for me on craigslist.
I am no prude and can listen to or read just about anything feeling unscathed. But this was an unsolicited boring "porn". At first I was horrified, then angry, then felt sad that someone who is over 50 should act like this. I chalked it up to a drunken cowardly display. Then I thought- no not drunken the handwriting is neat and clear. This is deliberate. While this all may be overthinking the situation I felt compelled to compose a retort to him. So drifting in and out of sleep between storm bursts last night I mentally composed a letter. I was going to gently suggest he seek help and I was going to send him back the letter he wrote with instructions to hand that to any social worker or therapist or clergyman he may see and they could help him deal with it. Sound charitable of me no? Well I get ready to type out a response and look at the envelope and it looks to me that the middle number for the Post Office box is smeared/scribbled over on purpose.
So all I am left with as a recourse is to spread the word. If you or anyone you know think it is "okay" to send unsolicited crap to someone, be they male or female. Get real . It is rude and invasive. None of us should tolerate it.
And just like my father in previous years- he mentioned he may get down to the Cape. Well like I did with my father I will do to him and have no remorse in planning an intricate, painful way to maim him. It would never be carried through but it is a great fantasy.
