I was aware of Eben maybe 10 years ago but I did not know the details until a year ago. He was born in early 1800s to Peggy Higgins. No father listed. He died in 1877 at age 76, blind and crippled. According to his death record he was a pauper. But his friends erected a stone for him.I heard that he was buried in the "front". Well after many visits I did not find his stone and figured it must lie flat or had been stolen.
So fast forward to April 2021 I searched in vain on my computer for the list of old graves that had plot numbers. I had remembered it being in the low 100s. Finally found the file and made note of all graves that were from 150-160. Eben was 155.
Light bulb came on after looking at some on findagrave and seeing they were on flat ground. That meant in the ancient section. Even though 1877 is not "ancient" in my book. LOL
So after food shop on a glorious Spring day of sunshine I stopped by, parked the truck and started to walk the area.
names I had listed: Blind Eben,Zoeth Smith, Hannah and David Taylor ( note covered in orange lichen ), Stephen and Philip Rogers, Eunice Rogers,Mary, Vickery and Arozina Sparrow, Abraham Ober noted flat in 2009, Molly and Jabez Sparrow, and Mercy Sparrow.
I took photos as I looked for familiar names. First one to catch my eye was Abraham Ober. he was a victim of a deadly gale storm in 1841. There is a monument in Congregation Church cemetery in Truro with his name on it as well.
then I saw the edge of David Taylor's stone on the hill! Had to be close! Saw lots of Sparrows but no familiar first names.Looking across the road from here at a newer old section I mentally made a note to take photos of zinkers over there.

so still mowing the rows in search of Eben saw an ice age "drift" rock and this gravestone that appears to be a replacement in recent years

Then this one which would be my luck for it to be Eben. But it was not.
Took a few more pix then thought I still had errands to do and I was getting hungry. So I gave up and wandered back up the hill from the front and there he was! Right where he was supposed to be. LOL
view to the left from Eben to David Taylor
walking back to the truck and climbing more hills these 2- one a brick cold storage with an impressive hinge lock. LOL and then the claustrophobic Myrick one blocked off- not escaping that !
standing between these two and looking up the hill where zinkers are waiting!
Today in total contrast to Saturday weather. I have time to do this blog.
